Pressure testing is an ideal way of finding the source of coolant leaks within your cooling system. The process involves securing a specialised pressure testing tool in place of your car’s radiator cap. Air is then pumped into the cooling system and measured for pressure. If there is a loss of pressure, there’s a leak in your cooling system.
Pressure testing also reveals the location of any leaks. When air is pumped into a cooling system, a small amount of coolant is pushed through the breaches, revealing the location of the leaks.
Common areas in which leaks can occur include:
• Worn hoses
• Leaking radiator
• Leaking thermostat housing
• Leaking water pump
• Leaking heater
• Leaking head gasket or valley cover gasket
